if you’re looking for a cool new punk band to listen to, i highly recommend looking for local small bands before searching “punk” into spotify.
don’t know how to find them?
what i did is i looked up what some punk bars in my area, i started going on random nights and found bands i liked that way. (if you’re under 21, you can still look up the bars, but go to their instagram, see what bands are playing and see if they are on band camp, spotify, etc.)
this has worked amazing for me, i’ve made so many friends, it’s to the point where certain bands shows feel like monthly family reunions full of so much love and genuine compassion.
hope this helps anyone wanting to be more involved in the subculture
EDIT: if you live in a small town, just search the nearest big city. or honestly any city that you vibe with. every area has a slightly different sound and scene find what you blend with!!

Queer horror from my teens
I periodically wonder whether these books are still known and read by young goths and horror fans as they were all extremely important to me in my teenage years, so I thought I'd share them.
Though I'm cishet, during the mid 90s two of my favourite authors wrote primarily queer fiction: they were Anne Rice and another author from New Orleans who is now known as Billy Martin.
He came out as a trans man in 2011, however these books were published prior to that so unfortunately you have to search for them under his deadname. This is why I've used that name in the tags on this post. I don't believe the books were ever reprinted with his current name.
Though I loved Rice, I always felt a more immediate connection with Martin due to his vivid portrayal of subcultures like goth and punk, and how it felt to be a teenager who was part of them. I could see myself in many of his characters as I had the same interests, listened to the same music, and shared the same sense of social alienation. Remember in the 90s the Internet was still a reasonably new thing, and many of us didn't have a home Internet connection at all. There was certainly no social media, no YouTube, and no real way to meet and interact with like-minded teens unless you were lucky enough to have another "weird kid" at your school. If you were a weird kid, you likely had very few friends and were bullied.
That as much as anything else led me to seek solace in books written by an author who I felt understood me, and characters who became my friends.
Lost Souls is about vampires in a kind of Lost Boys/Near Dark way. Fans of the YouTuber OfHerbsAndAltars might be interested to know that this book is where the name of his channel comes from - it's a description of the taste of Chartreuse liqueur.
Drawing Blood is about ghosts, a "murder house", computer hacking, comic art and a very beautiful (if rather messed up) romance. This one is probably my favourite of the three.
Exquisite Corpse is about serial killers, set against the AIDS crisis of the 90s. If you like the Hannibal TV series you'll probably enjoy this one - imagine if Dennis Nilsen and Jeffrey Dahmer had somehow met.
Martin doesn't pull any punches when it comes to descriptions of blood and gore, violence, abusive parents or his portrayal of toxic romantic relationships (of which there are many in his books), but if you can deal with those things there is also a great deal of beauty, phenomenally good writing, and a somewhat unique perspective on the supernatural.
Maybe I'm biased, looking at these through the lens of my teenage self. Maybe they'd seem horribly dated to today's young audience. But I still wanted to make this post in case there's someone out there who will end up loving them as much as I did.

Kinda got a love/hate relationship with the history of K/S because it's like. Can I please have a queer discussion about this 1960s television show without it being reduced to "shipper discourse". I thought Spock and Kirk were homo long before I knew that their characters spawned a fanfiction counterculture. The bisexual dude who wrote the episode that really kick-started the movement didn't know it was going to coalesce into the fan phenomenon that it did, he was just writing what he knew how to write best: the repression of burning male desire, and two dudes doing homoerotic shit. Can I just talk about the repressed burning male desire please, and the implications of a gay angle to Kirk and Spock's story, without it being referred to as shipper discourse. Can I do that. Does this make sense
#yes queer men write fanfiction but the subculture itself wasnt really centered around us or around closeted male desire which is the part#i related to#and I don't always think it gets to be talked about in a way thats ever fully divorced from that context if that makes sense?#one could argue it never WILL be divorced from that context but I believe said subtext existed before k/s was invented so#anyway this is one if my most autistic posts to date#historic moment#i hope this makes sense#k/s#star trek#the premise#like i just feel like glossing it over as ship discourse is demeaning to the actual GAY part of the discussion. this was even seen when#Gay-Gay Abrams was making his reboots and people brought up the subtext as a possibility#and creators were like “grrrrr you shippers just want your two favs to kiss onscreen” which downplays the significance of two men#being INTIMATE ONSCREEN#and is a lazy way to sweep queer male rep under the rug idk idk Im tired#Kirk and Spock will always be dismissed as a possibility and thats the excuse thats always used#its just so tied up in that fandom culture#i mean its interesting its just also frustrating at times

Are you...
Voidpunk is a subculture for those who often feel rejected or disconnected from humanity. This is popular within aromantic spectrum and asexual spectrum communities but also includes groups such as neurodivergent individuals, disabled individuals, non-binary individuals, individuals of color, and other groups that are frequently dehumanized or called "subhuman" by society. Voidpunk is based on embracing the idea of being "not human". While some individuals within these marginalized groups seek to prove their humanity to their oppressors, voidpunk instead recognizes that these oppressors are bigoted and taunts them by saying "Maybe I am not human up to society's standards. What about it?"

i'll be the first to admit i don't know a ton about the punk subculture and its history/core identity but based on the sheer number of incredibly stupid sounding and outright contradictory posts i see on this website i don't think any of the rest of the people on this website really do either
#obviously im sure there are specific tumblr users who actually know what theyre tlaking about#but i just saw a post that implied that punks as a subculture were part of the queer umbrella#well i simply don't think thats true! im gonna be honest!

Who can wear battle jackets? I'm a queer, disabled leftist, and I want to create my own battle jacket, but I don't belong to any particular subcultures that battle jackets are typically associated with. Can I wear a battle jacket? Or no?

It's so funny to me that some older punks (and other alt subcultures tbh) will complain that the punk scene is dying and then turn around and bully tf out of young punks.

I've made a very old post about Erik headcanons and I decided to write down another one. This is for a modern AU.
I will use all pronouns for Erik (read the post for explanation). This is mostly Leroux-based, original deformity, skinny body, yellow skin, except he has hair.
There will be triggering headcanons (it's Erik) and a little NSFW in the end, it will all be warned.
「Modern Erik headcanons」
• Romantic Goth
• His favorite goth band is London After Midnight (something something self projecting)
• He is also a very eclectic person
• AMAB Gender fluid (HE/SHE/THEY)
• Bi/pansexual (he identifies as both)
• Their favorite colors are red and black
• Their favorite novel is Bram Stoker's Dracula
• loves flowers, her favorite is black Perfect-love
• loves greek mythology, specially the myth of Hades and Persephone
• Theatre kid
• Does drag performances, her name is Phantasma
• Monsterfucker. Because yes
• He's an anarchist
• Autistic
• BPD
• Agnostic
• Has social anxiety
• Sleeps hugging pillow, one in the arm and one between the legs
• Doesn't know how to act when someone praises them, he almost cries
• 100% little spoon
• Is currently dating Daroga 🏳️🌈
「TW: TRAUMA RESPONSE, S/H, TYPICAL SELF-DESTRUCTIVE ERIK BEHAVIOUR, TOXIC ERISTINE」
• used to blame himself for being "mentally broken"
• has constant nightmares, wakes up screaming, sweating and struggling
• has PTSD
• has scars all over his body. He tries to hide all of them with his clothes
• used to do self harm. Like isolating himself, not eating properly, not sleeping properly, not taking care of their own physical and mental health (1/4)
• when his relationship with Christine was going terrible (Erik's fault), the self-harm tendencies got worse (2/4)
• he went to therapy and distanced himself from Christine. Daroga is helping them, and he stopped the self-harm (3/4)
• she and Christine got closer again after some years. Christine forgave them and now they're friends (4/4)
「NSFW」
• has sensitive nipples 🫣
• LOVES bites, specially on his neck
• loves toys (specially dildos), he loves using on himself and his partner
• cuddle sex>>>>> 💖
• cried of emotion during his first time 🥺 (... also screamed, drooled, trembled and farted, it was very awkard)
• switch
• they dated Christine and she used to pegg him 👀
That's it. Maybe I'll do with Daroga next

My Stance On Gender Equality
To clarify, I am a man who considers himself a feminist. I support gender equality, abortion rights, and believe transwomen are women.
In a world where transpeople are heavily sexualized, objectified, and harrassed for their identity, TERFs don't consider them ''REAL'' women because of their physical characteristics. Yet, they face many of the struggles quote unquote "Real" ciswomen do.
Defining a person by their reproductive system and what's in their pants seems counterintuitive to the aims TERFs strive toward, which includes rallying against objectification, hypersexualization, and systemic gender discrimination. All of these 3 things are okay to TERFs when the person affected is a trans women.
